Important information for freedom pass holders
This page contains all the up to date important information for freedom pass holders:
- 24 hour Elderly Freedom Pass acceptance on TfL services (buses, tube, trams and DLR) and English National Concessionary Bus Pass acceptance on TfL bus services will start on 2 January 2009. View a map of the routes covered in this 24 hour service.
- The new English national bus concessionary fares scheme started on 1 April 2008.
- Your renewed pass entitles you to all your current freedom pass benefits, plus the additional benefit of free local bus travel anywhere in England (between 9.30am and 11.00pm)*.
*This additional benefit will be available to all freedom pass holders aged 60 or over, and most holders of the disabled person’s freedom pass. A minority of disabled passes are issued at the discretion of the local council and so, under government legislation, will not be valid for use outside London.

- The Freedom Pass continues to be eligible for use on all local bus services in London.
The amendments to the eligibility criteria for the National Concessionary Bus Scheme, recently announced by the Department for Transport, simply provide clarification of the situation currently existing in London. For eligibility outside London, please check with local bus service operators.
The freedom pass is the 'travel permit' for the purposes of the GLA 1999 Act and the Concessionary Bus Travel Act 2007.
The scheme is managed by London Councils on behalf of all the London boroughs.
