In this example, we show you how to upload evidence of your proof of residency using a council tax bill and a smartphone. You can use the same method when uploading your proof of identification. These instructions are for an Apple iPhone. However, most smartphones and tablets will work in a similar way. You can also use a scanner if you have one, but may need to refer to your scanner's operating instructions.
Open the camera function on your phone or tablet and take a picture of your evidence. Make sure that it is a document that we accept, such as for proof of residency, a current council tax bill or utility bill dated within the last 3 months. We must be able to see your name, age, and address details clearly in the pictures.
Find the picture you took. Select the icon on the bottom left and then select mail. Type in your email address and press send. You might be asked if you want to add a subject. You can if you want to, but it is not needed. You may also be asked which size you would like to send your image. It is usually best to select small. Go to your computer and log into your emails. Open the email you just sent yourself and click on the image. Download the image and save it onto your computer. In this example, we've saved it onto the desktop. Please note, you will need to save the image in a JPEG, PDF, or TIFF format. If you took the image on your phone or tablet, it will usually be saved as a JPEG automatically.
Return to your application form and click choose file. Find where you saved your evidence. Select it by clicking on it once, then click open. You will see a black tick when you have attached it correctly. If you've selected the wrong piece of evidence in error, click delete and start again. If you require further assistance, you can call our helpline or email us.
